Great Wall Marathon 2014

China

Yes we made it – the amazing Great Wall Marathon! This included running up and over sections of the Great Wall itself and through neighbouring rural villages with the locals cheering us on. All of our NZ crew did incredibly well!

Unforgettable Memories

There were distance options of 8.5km, 21k and full marathon, catering for a range of fitness abilities with even a 12 year old NZ girl completing the 8.5km option! 52 countries were represented among the 2,500 runners allowed to enter this year. Weather conditions were hot and dry, peaking at 35 degrees celsius which made completion just that bit harder.

This is definitely one event that you can’t bluff your way through BUT with adequate conditioning and preparation there is room for most people.
Cultural highlights from our Great Wall Marathon experience? Food! The Peking Duck and other local food was amazing – not to mention the cheap beer.

From visiting Tiananmen Square, the Summer Palace, the majestic Forbidden City, Qing Tombs, the Olympic Games venue (Birds Nest and Water Cube complex), farmers markets, shopping, silk factories… the history and sheer scale of China is unbelievable! Taking a rickshaw ride through the old Hutong neighbourhood and eating lunch with a local family inside their home was a great learning opportunity.

These are unforgettable memories and you can take part – Dream It are taking expressions of interest for next year and strongly recommend to train and condition yourself in preparation for this extraordinary event. Space will be limited so get in touch now to reserve your spot.
